LIVE UPDATE from our #BigCatPhotoSafari to Sabi Sand, South Africa.
By Specialist Photographic Guide Lance van de Vyver.
Yesterday afternoon we headed out in search of male leopard Hosana, he has managed to evade us for the last few days. We soon found his tracks but after searching for a few hours, we could not locate him. We heard some impala alarm calls and after following up, we found fresh female leopard tracks. Unfortunately, these also led us nowhere. We then headed back to the wild dogs from the morning.
We arrived just as the dogs were waking up and greeting each other. They got onto a trot and we followed. One of the dogs managed to catch a scrub hare in front of us and devoured it quickly. We then followed the dogs until sunset before stopping for a drink on an airstrip.
This morning we headed out and immediately headed north toward some calling lions but we were unable to find them. We then moved east and found female leopard Inkanyeni. She had just lost a kill to hyena.
She then proceeded to hunt hares and managed to catch a really large hare and carry it off into the long grass where she fed on it for some time.
We moved on and saw plenty of general game including 5 breeding herds of buffalo. It has been good to see large buffalo herds in the area again. We also saw a melanistic Gabar Goshawk.
