LIVE UPDATE from our #BigCatPhotoSafari to Sabi Sand, South Africa.
By Specialist Photographic Guide Lance van de Vyver.
Yesterday afternoon we started our drive by following up on Thandi. She had moved into a thick drainage line and we were unable to relocate her. We then decided to head north in the hope of catching up with the Talamati pride. Again, after some hard tracking, we were unable to locate the pride and stopped for a drink next to Bushbuck dam. We were joined by three elephant bulls who were drinking. One of the larger bulls was extremely inquisitive and came right up to our vehicles to smell and look at us. He came within 3 meters of us but was completely calm and at ease. It was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us and we felt privileged to be a part of it.
This morning we headed to the hyena den. We found two cubs, two sub-adults and a large adult female at the den. The cubs suckled before playing around the den.
We then headed north where we found an Avoca male lion lazing in the sun.
After spending a short time with the lions we moved on. We found a pack of 8 wild dogs nearby just after they had finished drinking at a pan. They were boisterous and playful and we followed them for some time before they lay in the road on the Kruger boundary. We then drove back to camp slowly for brunch and bid some of our guests goodbye.
