LIVE UPDATE from our #BigCatPhotoSafari to Sabi Sand, South Africa.
By Specialist Photographic Guides Lance van de Vyver and Villiers Steyn.
In the last 24 hours we have been spoilt in terms of big cat sightings. Yesterday evening we managed to find and spend time with the Talamati pride and their 4 cubs. We found 2 lionesses, 1 Avoca male and the four cubs together on a zebra carcass. The lions had finished eating most of the zebra and were lazing around.
Some of the cubs were sleeping on the zebra’s head and one got up to go to the loo which gave us a chance to photograph it in the open.
After leaving the lions we bumped into male leopard Tingana far in the north. We spent some time with him and got some photos of him in the spotlight before we headed back to the lodge for dinner.
This morning we heard that some lions had been found and headed straight there. When we arrived, we found four lionesses followed by two large male lions.
We followed them through the bush before we positioned our vehicles at a waterhole in the hope that they would drink. And luckily for us, they did. This gave us a chance to get some stunning eye level shots of them.
After spending time with the lions we moved off and headed to a male leopard who was just found. It was Hukumuri.
It seems he has a badly injured right eye and we are not sure what the cause is. Unfortunately, it looks like his actual eyeball is injured and may not recover fully.
We then stopped for coffee at treehouse dam before heading home for brunch.
